Incumbent Davis Appears Vulnerable to Congressional Challenger Roe

JOHNSON CITY, TN - The first reporting for money raised just released by the Federal Election Commission shows challenger Phil Roe with a sizable lead over incumbent David Davis.

In contributions from individuals, Phil Roe raised $120,392.00 with Davis only reporting $39,855.00, representing a lead of over 3 to 1. Based on these figures, the incumbent appears vulnerable.

While Davis has taken $41,500.00 in contributions from Political Action Committees (PAC), Roe has vowed to refuse all PAC money. “It’s time to return government to the people and put an end to government run by PACs. I will owe no one but the citizens,” Roe declared.

Upon hearing the results of the fundraising, Keith Spicer, an adviser with the Roe Campaign who was former Co-Chair of the David Davis campaign in 2006 said, “It is certainly rare, maybe even unprecedente,d for a challenger to outraise an incumbent in this position, and shows that we have a real race on our hands for the 1st District. This is representative of the broad base of support that Dr. Phil Roe has put together. It is really good news for Roe and bad news for his opponent.”

Roe is seeking the Republican nomination for the First Congressional District House seat. The Republican primary will be held on August 7.
